WHAT
What can your psychologist
do for you?
Psychotherapy, Consultation, Education, and Advocacy at home,
school, work, and in the community.
At Home
Many parents, children, adolescents, families, couples, and individuals
view your psychologist as an expert partner in their lives, helping
to raise children, pick the best schools, handle difficult people
or situations, and dealing with crisis. Consultations and preventive
well visits are opportunities to plan intervention in the form
of psychotherapy for healing and environment changes at home, school,
work, and in your community.
At School
Schools seek professional guidance with handling crisis thoughtfully,
making healthy responses dealing with loss, sexual behavior, developmental
challenges, and to prevent and deal with violence. Education is
provided to students, parents, teachers, staff, and board members
to foster safe and vibrant learning environments in the form of
in-service trainings, consultations, and presentations. Schools,
daycares, and pre-schools often benefit from abuse prevention and
intervention workshops for risk-reduction while lowering insurance
costs.
At Work and in the Community
Businesses, community organizations, and other professionals seek
preventive and intervention consultations and education to maximize
strong working relationships and productivity. Enhancing leadership,
conflict resolution, and preventing a culture that encourages thoughtful,
productive behavior, and prevents destructive behavior including
bullying and sexual harassment.
What is a clinical psychologist?
There are many types of psychologists. A clinical psychologist
helps people achieve balanced, productive lives in the personal,
social, sexual, spiritual, and professional spheres with consultation,
therapy, support, and education ( www.apa.org ).
What is a parent coach?
Parenting is a most wonderful and challenging experience. Your Parent Coach is a parenting partner, a resource in good times and bad. The goal of coaching is to help you understand your child's needs at each developmental stage and life event.
What works best for your child? Your parenting questions, concerns, and conflicts provide great learning opportunities to better understand your child's needs at home, in school, and in the community. Understanding developmental issues and challenges allows you and your family to foster each child's potential!
You are invited ... to post a question, pick up the phone, or email me to help your child shine! Sometimes a little chat goes a long way. Sometimes individual or group coaching sessions are best. Let's see! YourParentCoach@ShrinkRapDoc.com
What is the goal of psychotherapy?
Not happiness!
Happiness is not a goal, it is a wonderful by-product of making
great choices that allow you and yours to shine.
The goal of psychotherapy is to better understand what affects
your feelings and behavior, so that you can lead an even more balanced,
and productive life.

WHEN
When do you call your psychologist?
Before a problem hits, during, and afterwards. The earlier the
better, prevention is the key!
When do you stop seeing your psychologist?
Never! Real answer, when the goals are met. The frequency and
during of psychotherapy sessions, consultations, education, and
advocacy depend on your needs. This ranges from a one-time visit
to ongoing efforts for assessment, prevention, intervention, consultations,
and planning.
